Fall is (finally) here, and while it might not immediately feel or look like it for those of us who live on the Central Coast in California, it certainly doesn’t mean you should delay pulling out the fall décor and adding some seasonal accents to your home to celebrate the season. Whether you decide to choose a warm color scheme, an eye-catching tablespace, traditional Halloween decorations, or layers of texture and patterns, fall decorating is mainly about creating an inviting and cozy space for you and your family. In this blog, we will highlight a few simple ways to create a cozy, fall retreat in your home this season.
Start with Your Table
One of the easiest places to add some fall flair to your home is your dining room table. Whether you are hosting Thanksgiving dinner, or just want a nice area to display your autumn décor, there are so many ways to pull together a cozy and inviting gathering place for friends and family. A table set with seasonal linens and beautiful dishes can really set the tone for your home for the season. All you will need is a fall-themed tablecloth with warm colors or a simple plaid pattern as your base layer. Then, you can add some candles, pumpkins, greenery for your centerpiece, and a neutral color for your dinnerware. Once you gather the basics, let your creativity run wild!
Create a Cozy Living Space
Your living room is one of the most used spaces in your home, so it makes sense to choose this area to add some fall touches as you transition into the cooler months of the year. Living room fall décor should be functional and comfortable, especially if you want a soothing space to unwind after a long and busy day. Swap out your throw pillows for warmer, autumn tones, and add a few more throw blankets to your chairs and couch for those times you want to snuggle up and watch a movie, read a book or sip on your favorite pumpkin-flavored beverage.
Bring the Outdoors In
Fresh flowers are another simple and easy way to brighten your home for the season. Fill a variety of vases (or pumpkins!) with sunflowers and/or colorful mums to instantly add some color to your home. You can always opt for fresh or invest in some faux foliage that you can use year after year. Pumpkins, gourds and squash are all great starting points for creating seasonal displays in your foyer, on your front porch,
and beyond. Or, for even more simplicity, take a walk outdoors and clip some simple greenery from low-hanging trees and arrange it in a pitcher or wide-mouth container to place on your dining room table or side tables for an easy centerpiece that doesn’t cost a dime. A little greenery can go a long way in creating the perfect pop of fall color in your home.
Involve the Family
Decorating your home for the fall doesn’t have to be a solo project! Grab the kids and get them involved with some simple decorating projects that can easily turn into holiday traditions. Pumpkins are everywhere this season, so grab a few extra and let the kids use them as a canvas. Pull out any paint you might have and get creative. If the leaves happen to be changing outside, take a walk and encourage them to pick some of their favorite colors to glue onto some paper or grab some pinecones to paint and add to your tablescape or centerpiece. Whatever the craft, creating special family memories and traditions are a great way to welcome and celebrate the fall season.
While there is no right or wrong way to decorate your home for the fall, we hope some of these tips and simple ideas will be a great starting point in helping you and your family create a cozy and peaceful place to retreat to during this busy fall season!
